A Series of Fortunate Events
Have you read the 13 books in “A Series of Unfortunate Events?” I am trying to focus on seeing my recent stories as fortunate. I just returned from a wonderful trip with my husband to Costa Rica. It was magical to see tropical animals living in lush, green forests. Now I am home and getting ready for the first day of school. Reality beckons, but I can share my jungle animal stories with my students.
I ate too much on vacation and need to go on a healthy diet. Is any diet really healthy? On that note, I decided to do some floor exercises to strengthen my core. I started a ten-minute video on my phone for women over 50. Yep, that is me. However, I lifted my legs too high and twisted the wrong way, and put out my back. Unfortunately, I ended up stuck in a chair with a pillow behind me for the weekend. Every footstep was painful. By the time I got a doctor's appointment and meds, the pain was bearable. The X-rays were all good and the doctor told me not to do those exercises again! I just saw an Ad for a $100 exercise dress. Yes, it has spaghetti straps with attached shorts underneath. It looks super cute on the model. However, if you have any bulges, they are going to show through the tight lycra material. No thanks.
I had a dentist appointment this week to fill a cavity. Unfortunately, it turned out my tooth was cracked and they had to pull it and put in a temporary crown. More pain! Next, I have to return for a permanent crown. Ugh! I really don’t like having my mouth propped open with sharp dental instruments followed by days of pain. I still can’t chew on that side of my mouth. I guess that is good calorie-wise.
My health food kick was interrupted by a lunch date with my husband. We wanted to visit the famous Las Vegas Mexican restaurant that collapsed into a sinkhole. Apparently, the owners didn’t realize that the ground underneath was unstable until the floor collapsed beneath them. They had to close and rebuild it for the past eight months. Apparently, the meals used to be something to rave about. Our meal was not. There was too much water, oil, and unknown spices in the food. The price did not match the portions. All I can think is that the former employees found new jobs after the restaurant closed. They definitely need new cooks. If you want to read more about the sinkhole, check out “Betsy’s Blog” titled "Ready for 2021?" on Dec. 31, 2020.
When it rains, it pours in the desert. The ground is so dry that water can barely penetrate it. The result is that it flooded here again today. We live near a drainage ditch where many homeless people camp out at night. So when the rain started, a PA announcement was made with a loud, storm warning alarm. We lost our electricity late at night and it was very surrealistic. All I could think is that the grass, flowers, and city are happy to have more water.
So my weekly events turned from unfortunate to fortunate which is a good way to view life. We need to remember to focus on the positives daily. My life so far has been a series of fortunate incidences. How about you? Share your thoughts below.
