Omicron is Raging!

Omicron is raging! I am sick and tired of Covid. Fourteen days ago, it arrived in my household and it is not over yet. My son is still sick as a dog. He tried to return to his job, but blacked out and almost fainted. His boss sent him home saying he doesn’t want sick employees showing up. However, it was Human Resources who called him up and told him it was time for him to return to work. New Year was a spreader event around the world. As a result, Covid has also affected my public school teaching job. Due to my exposure to a family member living in my home, I had to quarantine for five days. During this time, I was required to get two negative Covid tests with the results sent to my Principal. Then, my school district decided to take a five-day “pause” for staff and students. The concept was to give time for teachers and students to heal while the school germs disappeared. However, it has been thwarted by the new variant, Omicron. So we will see what happens when school resumes.

Meanwhile, we sit at home afraid to return to the real world. I sit in a vacuum of surfing the Internet, reading, watching TV, and trying to avoid the news. I sneak peeks at the latest Covid statistics and have knots in my stomach. There are too many people refusing to wear masks or get vaccinated who end up in overcrowded Emergency Rooms. I wonder how future textbooks will explain this chaotic time in history. How can we justify the spreading of deadly germs to our vulnerable population? I have to blame it on the former president whose name rhymes with ‘dump.’

Anyways, we need to move forward, stay safe, and continue to make our lives better daily. After living in multiple countries, people have a great deal in common. We all have basic needs, families, school, and work. We want to be happy and healthy. I have upgraded my face mask brand to block out more germs. I wash my hands at least a hundred times daily and carry hand sanitizer. I know that better times are coming and that the world has learned many lessons. So I will continue to care for those around me. I communicate more often with family by phone, email, and Zoom.

I often wonder how we will look back at this unique time in history. Will we have regrets, wishes, and lost moments? Of course, we will. So take time to enjoy each day. Today, I will listen to my favorite songs on Youtube as I type this Blog. I live with my supportive son and husband. I have a sibling Zoom call tomorrow and life goes on. I will start each morning with a smile and try to make it last. Adios Crazy Covid! We are survivors and together we can learn from this moment in time. Virtual hugs to you and your loved ones around the world.
