I have never been to Hawaii. How is that possible? I used to live in California twice years ago and read the Sunday Newspaper ads for trips to Hawaii. This was before the Internet. In this photo, we are giving the Hawaiian hand Shaka sign for 'Hang Loose, Don't Worry or Rush!" Our trip plans began with using our Air Miles to fly from our home in Las Vegas to Hawaii. Then it expanded by using more Air Miles to continue our island visits worldwide. Did I mention that my husband Chuck planned a Round the World Trip for a Fifth Grade Class Assignment? He was reliving his project over 50 years later. Why not? We need to travel while we can still walk, talk and know where we are! So here we are in Honolulu with my sister and her Hawaiian husband. Paul was born here and spent most of his time at the beach until he got a swimming scholarship to the University of Colorado and met my sister Anne (in the middle of the photo above). That's another story. So when they heard we were headed to Honolulu, they joined us as tour guides. Paul drove us all around the island and we saw where he grew up, went to school, and surfed. We met up with his fun brothers and sisters who stayed on the island and had the royal welcome. It is so blue everywhere and full of flowers and beaches. We had his family as local tour guides too who took us to their favorite sites with stories and restaurants. Did you know that Shirley Temple (below) made a movie here and stayed in the famous "Pink Hotel" and her photo is hanging on their wall?
Paul's (below rght in the ππPink Hotel) family were the perfect hosts. They were so much fun and walked us until we dropped. We wore fresh flower leis, went to the beach and ate in tropical gardens under the stars. One night was an outside concert of "The Doobie Brothers." We enjoyed a free concert sitting on benches behind the stage at the park under palm trees. There was an outdoor stage where his brother danced on the stage. We were all singing along and enjoying our own private concert. The beginning of the trip was so much fun. It started out on a wave that will continue as we board the next flight to the Marshall Islands. Stay tuned! ☕πΈππ
