Dramatic Dubai 🇦🇪

 

We flew into Dubai late at night and the city was lit up with tall skyscrapers in the middle of a sandy desert. Dubai is home to over 3 million people, has the second most five star hotels and the tallest building in the world. 🇦🇪 Dubai began as a small fishing village in the 19th century. Now it has 96 shopping malls filled with deluxe designer stores. There is a mixture of the old and new in this international city. Citizens are dressed in both traditional robes and modern fashions. 🥻👳‍♂️

Everyone seems to speak English here. I found a laundry, a hairdresser and a huge Mall the first day. It is hot, sticky and crowded here. People are thriving and dressed well with fancy cars and designer purses. 🚗👛

Shoppers can ski at the Mall and have snowball fights for $100. We watched the snow fun through the glass window. The tourists were like children having snowball fights. I grew up in Michigan and don't need to pay to play in the snow. ❄️⛄

Dubai is a country of contrasts. There are crumbling buildings right next to modern skyscrapers. Men are dressed in white robes walking with women in yoga clothes. There are women in black veils standing beside teens in shorts.👰‍♂️ 🩳

🇦🇪 Dubai is full of surprises! Tonight we found comfort at the  Applebee's Restaurant 🍎that opened two weeks ago. The manager came over to talk to us. He was happy to hear that Chuck posted his restaurant photos on Google maps. Hopefully, it will bring more customers. 

There is an amazing waterfall inside the Dubai 

Mall that has metal swimmers diving into the waterfall! ⛲

Dubai is also home to the tallest building in the world! 🌎         

             
Burj Khalifa is twice the size of the Empire State Building. It is located in a business complex that is surrounded by a lake with a fountain that erupts periodically. Very impressive! 😲

We sat outside on a sunny 😎 day at a table with a view of the tallest building. We ate doughnuts 🍩 and dipped a smoothie overlooking a scenic lake and the tallest building in the world.🗼

You can find food from every country in Dubai. I love the Middle Eastern breakfast of hummus, labneh, pita bread and olives. 🫒 Tonight we fly out of this desert city to the flowers of Holland. Stay tuned for my next Blog! ♻️🐑🐮
