Jimmy's Germany 🇩🇪

 


Welcome to  Germany ‼️🇩🇪 Upon arrival in Dusseldorf, this golden German car was on display at the airport!😲 We are so excited to visit our son's family. David and his Dutch wife Marcha both work in this historic, but modern city. Their nine year old son Jimmy helped me write this Blog. He plays the trumpet🎺 and soccer at his international school where David is a teacher. ❤️ 

Dusseldorf is a beautiful city with a mixture of historic and modern buildings. 'Dorf' means village in German. However, Dusseldorf is hardly a village. It is the seventh largest city in Germany with over 600,000 people. We walked through the historic and modern neighborhoods. The main street Konigsallee is located near the luxury shopping and the historic town square. 🛒🛍️

We enjoyed Jimmy's favorite Maritime Museum on the Rhine River. The museum was built to resemble a wooden ship full of boat models from Roman to modern times. 🛶🚢

On the way to the Ship Museum, Jimmy was stopped for an interview on a German TV news show. They asked him about his Internet usage in German. I was surprised when Jimmy answered all the questions in German. I was impressed and had no clue what he said. Jimmy was very confident on camera. His TV interview photo is below!📺🎦

Jimmy also took us to the local bakery for chocolate croissants, doughnuts and oatmeal cookies. 🍪 😋
Dusseldorf is a city of poets and thinkers. It is also known as a fashion capital and an art and music center.🎨🎼 
Dusseldorf is a diverse city with castles, bratwurst, markets and museums.🏰🌭🏢🎨

Next, Jimmy took us to the local meat and cheese shop. Then he went next door to order Shawarma all in German. Impressive ‼️! 🇩🇪 🏬

On Sunday, we enjoyed Brunch at a fancy hotel. 🥓🥚🍞 Afterwards, Jimmy whistled to the birds in the park and they answered him. 🐦😙 I love these city moments from Jimmy's point of view. 🪟 

Last night we had a typical German dinner at a local restaurant. They served big mugs of beer🍺, meat, sauerkraut, mixed vegetables 🥕🥦 and fries. 🧆🍟🇩🇪
Soon we will bid a fond farewell to this historic city and our son's family. 'Danke' to Jimmy for showing us around and for helping daily with my Germany Blog!🇩🇪🫂👋

I didn't choose to have both my phone and computer crash on the the same day! However, that is what happened and now I am experiencing 'tech withdrawal.'A week ago, my phone screen began flickering yellow before it completely shut down. Within hours, my laptop crashed and then refused to turn back on. It was scary to lose two electronic devices in one day. I put my overheated laptop outside to sit in the cold, winter air for an hour. Then it suddenly restarted! Thank goodnesss! I am now using it to write this Blog. Spring Time in New York 🌼

Landing in New York is a kaleidoscope of tall, brick buildings, blue rivers and bare trees in April. 🏫 There are still patches of snow as we drive north through rolling hills. ☁️ The sky is a mass of grey clouds and I'm glad I brought my winter coat. The forests are covered with a cushion of buds on the branches giving a hint of Spring in the air.🌱  Our oldest son Karl works at an idyllic boarding school nestled in the countryside north of the city. 🏫 We spent his birthday driving a few hours north to Woodstock complete with old hippies, young yuppies, funky shops and organic restaurants. 🕊️   🌼 We ordered scrambled tofu for breakfast with only two bald headed hippies eating nearby. One of them told the waiter that he used to dine here years ago and still remembered Mary the cook. He wondered if she still worked there. Live With the End in Mind

  Life is full of unanswered questions. Would we live our lives more fully if we knew when we were going to die? I don't really want to know my end date. 📅 I prefer to think I'm going to live a long, happy life with my husband, children and grandchildren. I intend to enjoy each day and follow my daily routines. 👍 I enjoy starting each morning with freshly brewed coffee ☕️, a walk🚶‍♀️, and hopefully a quick trip to the gym.🏋️‍♀️ I also enjoy substitute teaching, 📚 reading a books, 📖 going out to eat, 😋 and looking for treasures at Target. 🛍  The author Barbara Becker explores living our lives more fully in her recent book, "Heartwood." The title refers to the center of trees 'heartwood ' that stays firm when the wind blows. Like 👍 the trees, we need to stand firm, but live with the 'end in mind.' What better way to start the new year than to focus on finding daily joy in our lives? 😃 Author Becker writes about her close friend that was dying. ...
