Living in Vegas!


 


What is it like to live year round in Las Vegas? My husband and I moved here over three years ago during the Pandemic.  The world was in turmoil and it seemed like a unique place to live. We don't gamble, but do enjoy the Casino shows, concerts, restaurants and people watching. Anything goes in Vegas! People walk down the Strip in costumes and  bikinis. The city never sleeps and is full of 24 hour restaurants, stores and casinos.

We have gone to amazing concerts and plays in local theatres too. The Strip Malls have small theaters and live music bars. There are many aspiring musicians, dancers and actors performing on Fremont Street. It is a city that never sleeps and is full of talent! 

 
  I talked my husband into going to the IMAX theater to see Taylor Swift's new movie. Her music sounded amazing with the walls of speakers. My husband was content watching a football game on his phone in a comfortable recliner while the audience sang along and danced in the aisles. 🕺 💃 Afterwards, the lobby had beads and elastic strings to make Taylor song bracelets. There also had Taylor signs to hold up and pose for photos. 📸 🎵 

The next night we went to see Christopher Cross in our hotel theatre. They had great seats at an even greater prices available. We had bought his famous "Sailing" album over 40 years ago! Cross is still standing, but I read on Wikipedia that he has some leg issues.  However, it doesn't stop Cross from touring the country in a bus with his Paris musicians and Nashville back up singers.

We saw an amazing 3D movie "Postcards from Earth" at the new 'Sphere'. The outside globe is a rotating, color light display. The inside is a theatre with thousands of speakers and seats that move with sudden blasts of air on your feet. There It was a perfect birthday gift from our LA children.  🥰 🎬 


The next day we tried the famous Lobster Buffet. It was chaotic. Customers almost got into a fight waiting in line for the restaurant. Once inside, they pushed by each other to get lobster and melted butter at the buffet. 🧈. Watch out for 'hangry' people! Yikes! It almost took my appetite away! 😃 However, I was hungry again at 5 in the morning for the Steak and Eggs Breakfast Special. 🌞 

We ended the Vegas birthday with a swim and meal by the pool. 🎂 🍾 🎈
Viva Las Vegas! 🥳 🌴 🌞 🏊‍♂️

I didn't choose to have both my phone and computer crash on the the same day! However, that is what happened and now I am experiencing 'tech withdrawal.'A week ago, my phone screen began flickering yellow before it completely shut down. Within hours, my laptop crashed and then refused to turn back on. It was scary to lose two electronic devices in one day. Spring Time in New York 🌼

Landing in New York is a kaleidoscope of tall, brick buildings, blue rivers and bare trees in April. 🏫 There are still patches of snow as we drive north through rolling hills. ☁️ The sky is a mass of grey clouds and I'm glad I brought my winter coat. The forests are covered with a cushion of buds on the branches giving a hint of Spring in the air.🌱  Our oldest son Karl works at an idyllic boarding school nestled in the countryside north of the city. 🏫 We spent his birthday driving a few hours north to Woodstock complete with old hippies, young yuppies, funky shops and organic restaurants. 🕊️   🌼 We ordered scrambled tofu for breakfast with only two bald headed hippies eating nearby. One of them told the waiter that he used to dine here years ago and still remembered Mary the cook. He wondered if she still worked there. Live With the End in Mind

  Life is full of unanswered questions. Would we live our lives more fully if we knew when we were going to die? I don't really want to know my end date. 📅 I prefer to think I'm going to live a long, happy life with my husband, children and grandchildren. I intend to enjoy each day and follow my daily routines. 👍 I enjoy starting each morning with freshly brewed coffee ☕️, a walk🚶‍♀️, and hopefully a quick trip to the gym.🏋️‍♀️ I also enjoy substitute teaching, 📚 reading a books, 📖 going out to eat, 😋 and looking for treasures at Target. 🛍  The author Barbara Becker explores living our lives more fully in her recent book, "Heartwood." The title refers to the center of trees 'heartwood ' that stays firm when the wind blows. Like 👍 the trees, we need to stand firm, but live with the 'end in mind.'
